What does the little x stand for in piano sheet music?

what is the little x symbol infront of notes for?


i think it might be called something like a double sharp, but what does it mean?

You're right, the little x is called a double sharp. What it means is that your F is sharped twice. So, instead of raising it a semi-tone to get an F#, you raise it a whole tone, which makes it ';F double sharp'; (or G, but that's just to recognize the note on the piano)
